Watching Max lose himself like that was totally unexpected, but I’ve never been more turned on in my life.

The only time Matt took his eyes off me was to watch Max stroke himself. With his hands bound, Matt was powerless to do anything other than enjoy the show. When he closed his eyes, grunting as his hips rolled against Max’s back, I nearly came on the spot. Something about watching these two massive men vulnerable, giving in to their desire like that, awakened a need in me I never knew I had.

Matt lifts his gaze back to mine, satiated and relaxed after his feed, and he looks his old self again. His eyes are almost their normal colour, with only the slightest red rim hinting at something else.

Parting his lips, he presses a tender kiss to the back of Max’s neck and smirks. A cocky, self-satisfied smile and I realise this wasn’t only vampire-driven lust for him. It was about Max. I can’t blame him for wanting a taste. My mate is spectacular.

Feeling energised by their interaction, and relieved it didn’t end in disaster, I creep closer until I’m kneeling in front of Max.

He still refuses to look at me.

Resting one hand on his leg, I cup his face with the other and kiss him softly. He lifts his eyes to mine warily, but when my lips touch his again, he relaxes. The guilt pouring off him subsides as he feels my joy, not betrayal. I can sense his wolf’s relief that I’m not angry.

There’s something else there too, something darker.

There’s an overwhelming feeling of protectiveness toward Matt and his precarious situation. He’s afraid I’m angry at him.

Reaching forward, I touch Matt’s rugged face, and he pushes into it, pressing his cheek against my palm before turning to nip it playfully. With his hunger met, he’s in control again. Max rumbles, content with the interaction, and I bring my lips to his once more before pulling him close and whispering in his ear.

“I think… he’s yours.”

It’s hard to wrap my head around, but as soon as I say the words out loud, I’m certain of it. Max might have only ever shifted into a wolf, but deep down, there’s a bear inside him that’s claimed Matt as his. Bears choose their mate, not feeling the instant connection wolves do. Matt is a choice I can understand.

“No, you are mine.”

Max is furious, as if I’m denying his claim to me, and his hand clamps around my hips as he pulls me into his lap and holds me close to him. My wolf practically rolls over with delight at the strength of his words and his dominant claim. He’s not picking Matt over me, but this complicates things. Drastically.

“I’m yours. Don’t worry, I’m all yours, Max.” I smile softly at him, then Matt. “But I think your bear prefers someone else.”

Shaking his head, automatically denying my words, Max wraps me up in his arms and buries his nose in my hair.

“That can’t be right.
